As we close the door on 2016, with 2017 just waiting in the wings, we can look back over another exciting year which brought tons of changes to Atreia, particularly in the second half. Let’s take a moment to reflect on everything that happened during the last 365 days.
We celebrated both 4 years of AION Free-to-Play and 7 years of AION in total – that’s a seriously long time! Of course, we celebrated those anniversaries in style, with tons of great prizes in our contests.
At the start of the year, we updated our servers to 4.9 and then 4.91, introducing a host of changes to the Abyss in particular. Then the big 5.0 update launched in August, raising the level cap to 75, introducing two new areas, elemental transformations, creation points and more. The patch brought some profound changes, leading us into the past and transforming us into High Daevas. Shortly afterwards came 5.1 with a second level of elemental transformations amongst other things. Meanwhile, version 5.3 is already hot in the forge for the coming year.
Server merges at the start of the year brought the peoples of a number of smaller worlds together on larger servers, which had an immediate impact on the thriving life and activity on the servers, laying a vital foundation for AION’s future.
Meet & Greet:
This year for the very first time we organised a major AION Meet & Greet community event parallel to the gamescom in Cologne. A select number of lucky AION fans had an opportunity to get to know the AION team personally, riddle them with questions, grab a few photos and simply have a great evening together sharing their passion for AION! We also had some very special guests: part of NCSoft’s AION team were on hand from Korea, taking advantage of an opportunity to touch base with the European players directly and help answer some of the community’s most burning questions. If you missed out, you can get an impression of the evening here – plus the question and answer session is available on YouTube in the guise of a live AskAION episode.
As 2016 draws to a close, we can only look back and say what an exciting and eventful year it’s been. We had a large number of challenges to overcome, though with benefit of hindsight, we can also see numerous areas where we would still like to improve, where we can improve, and indeed where we will improve in the future.
Update 5.3 is already slated for release early next year – in February, to be precise – and will see you entering gigantic battles and pushing right into the capital of the enemy faction. The strength of the Aetheric Field will also start to ebb, and as it weakens, a long lost enemy will return to strength.
Of course, we have plenty more planned for the coming year. Over the past twelve months we started working on the PvP and PvE seasons, and these remain at the top of our list of priorities for 2017, together with the long awaited character transfers. The ongoing work developing these seasons next year constitutes part of our endeavour to expand our options for creating and running our very own exclusive events. We also want to continue working on our contact and collaboration with the community, and implement some of the things we learned over the past year.
We’d like to thank you for your loyalty and support this year and we’re looking forward to sharing many more great adventures together in the coming one! A Happy New Year 2017 to one and all!
All the best,
The AION Team
