Before I begin, I would like to say a big thank you to Clannad from the french forum team for creating this in French. As I thought this would be great to have on the EN boards as well, I have translated this and updated the odd parts slightly. Please be aware that this is a WIP and is not perfect as of yet and any suggestions would be more than welcome.





Client Installation:
Installing AION from a backup or copy.
Installing Aion on a drive that is not your C drive.
Moving AION from one drive to another.
Check if your computer can run AION.
Changing the installation path set by the launcher

This may be helpful for users with a slow connection or wishing to restore from a backup copy of the game.

If you have already started installing Aion, please uninstall everything you have done so far by following this guide:

• Completely uninstall AION.
  
• Install the latest Gameforge Live Launcher.
  
• Continue the installation until you receive the message "One of the components requires an update" Select "Start Update" and wait 30 seconds, now stop the update and completely close the launcher.
  
• Now delete everything in the following locations:
  
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Gameforge\AION Free-To-Play \
    
  • \ Program Files (x86) \ GameforgeLive \ Games \ EN_en \ AION \ Download \
    
  • This depends if you're using the original launcher or the Gameforge Live launcher.
    
• Now copy all of your backup files to the following location:
  
• C:\Program Files (x86)\GameforgeLive\Games\EN_en\AION\Download
  

Once this has been completed, you should now be able to start the launcher like normal and everything should be up to date.

This guide should only be followed if you're completing a fresh installation Aion and not if you have already installed the game, follow this tutorial:
Moving Aion on a drive other than C:

If you have already installed Aion, please do a complete uninstall of the client by following this tutorial:

• Completely Uninstalling Aion
  

Once the above has been completed, it's time to begin the main part of this tutorial:

1. Install the latest Gameforge Live Launcher.
   
2. Continue the installation process until you see the warning "One of the components requires an update."
   
3. Click "Start Update" and wait 30 seconds, then stop the update and close the launcher.
   
4. Delete everything in the following location:
   
   • C:\Program Files (x86)\GameforgeLive\Games\EN_en\AION\Download
     
5. Create a directory in your next drive where you wish to store Aion, for example "E:/Games/Aion"
   
6. Now update your launcher path that can be done be following this tutorial:
   
   • Setting the path located in the launcher
     
7. Start the launcher and update the game.
   

With this complete, Aion should now be installed on another disk and you can continue to play like normal.

Please only follow this tutorial if you have already installed Aion. If you have not installed Aion yet, please follow the below tutorial:

• Installing Aion on another drive other than C:
  

1. Create a directory on the drive that you wish to store Aion, for example "E:/Games/Aion"
   
2. Move everything stored in your current Aion folder over to your new location, these can be found in the following locations:
   
   • C:\Program Files(x86)\GameforgeLive\Games\EN_en\AION \Download\
     
   • C:\Program Files (x86)\Gameforge\AION Free-To-Play\
     
   • This depends on if you have installed the game with the Gameforge Live launcher or not.
     
3. Once that is completed, please complete the tutorial located below:
   
   • Setting the path located in the launcher
     
4. Start the launcher like normal and you should be able to play the game without any problems.
   

If you are now able to launch the game, everything has been successful and this transfer was a success.

CAUTION: If you have installed the game with Gameforge Live, please follow this tutorial:

• Starting the launcher without using Gameforge Live
  

Otherwise, please continue.

The launcher must always be launched using the shortcut created on your desktop, this is due to the fact the shortcut contains parameters that must be completed. If you run the launcher directly, you will receive the E03001 error message.

If you have deleted or lost your shortcut for the launcher, this can be easily recreated by doing the following:

1. Go to the following location:
   
   • C:\Program Files\Gameforge\NCLauncher
     
   • Please be aware that this may be slightly different depending on if you have changed the installation path.
     
   
   
2. Select the NCLauncher.exe application, right click and click "Create Shortcut"
   
3. Locate the shortcut created, right click and go to properties.
   
4. In the target section, add the following to the end of what is already there.
   
   • /LauncherID:"GameForge" /CompanyID:"11" /GameID:"AION-LIVE" /LUpdateAddr:"update.aion.gfsrv.net"
     
   
   
5. click apply and ok.
   

Once this has been completed, you have successfully created your own Aion Launcher shortcut and will be able to launch the game again.

If you're having a problem with the client that requires you to reinstall the game, please make sure to uninstall the game first.

If you have installed Aion via the Gameforge Live client:

1. Run C:\Program Files (x86)\GameforgeLive\Games\EN_en\AION\uninstall.exe
   
   • Follow the instructions provided to uninstall the Aion Launcher.
     
   
   
2. Then C:\Program Files (x86)\GameforgeLive\unins000.exe
   
   • Follow the instructions provided to uninstall the Gameforge Live Client.
     
   
   
3. and finally delete the Gameforge Live directory.
   

If you have installed Aion via the old launcher

1. ATTENTION: this operation can only be completed if you have the original installation file (setup_20130224.exe)
   
2. Once you have this, simply run the .exe and select the third option and follow the steps provided.
   
3. Once completed, delete the Gameforge Folder and everything inside that can be located on your C drive.
   

Since the release of 3.1, people have been having some problems with the launcher relating to being able to open it. This can sometimes be due to the launcher being attached to an incorrect compatibility mode.

This is an easy problem to solve and can be done if the do the following:

1. Right click your launcher shortcut and go to properties
   
2. Select the Compatibility tab
   
3. Make sure "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" is not ticked
   
4. Select apply and then ok
   

This will have disabled compatibility mode for your launcher.

Here is a quick and easy method to check if your PCc is compatible with AION. This has been tested and works successfully with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Firefox.

This does require the latest version of Java, the site will automatically redirect you to the download page for Java if you do not have the latest version.

1. Click the following link: systemrequirementslab.com/
   
2. Now select "Aion: Ascension" from the list.
   
3. Now click the button "Can you run it?" Your browser will ask for permission to run an add-on, accept this.
   
4. After a quick check, the site will inform you if you're able to run Aion.
   

Symptom:
This error appears at random when installing the game or an update sometimes.

Solution:

1. Stop the launcher
   
2. Restart your PC
   
3. Restart the Launcher. The update or installation should now continue like normal.
   

Symptom:
This error will normally appear between the installation percentages of 12% and 52% and is generally created due to having slow internet connections.

Solution:
In most cases, this can be solved by just stopping the launcher and then restarting the launcher after around 5 minutes.

However, some players have reported this error appearing when the launcher hits 52%, this generally indicates a problem with your IP not being accepted for whatever reason and can be avoided by using a VPN service such as "HotspotShield". Only use this while installing the game, once the game is installed, you can uninstall this and run the game like normal.


Caution:
The use of VPN software is not officially support by Gameforge, and while this is allowed for the installation process, it is advised not to use such programs when playing the game.

Symptom:
This error will happen when you're installing or updating the game and is created by a corrupt file being downloaded in place of the file you needed.

Solution:
To solve this problem, you will need to download a clean copy of the file that is corrupt. In the error message, you will receive a file like at the end, for example:
"Sounds\music\Pak_001.pak"

1. This is the file that has been corrupted and will need to be corrected. This can easily be done by closing the launcher and searching for this file on your computer.
   
2. Once this file has been found, delete the file and do a complete system restart.
   
3. Now restart the launcher and begin updating your client like normal.
   

Checkpoint:
If you notice this error is happening repeatedly, this may indicate that you have a problem with your HDD. I suggest you run a manual check just to make sure everything is working correctly.

1. Open the Command Prompt as Administrator
   
2. Type the following command;
   
   • chkdsk/f/r
     
3. The message "Do you want this disk to be checked the next time your system restarts? (Y/N)" will appear, type Y and press Enter
   
4. Restart your computer and allow the Check Disk system run, this may take some time.
   
5. If there are any problems located on your disk, this system will normally automatically repair it.
   

For technical support, here are some important points to check in every situation before requesting assistance.

1. Make sure your computer can run Aion
   
   • Easily check if your PC can run AION Free-To-Play
     
2. Close all other applications
   
   • If you're using Mumble, run this after you have started Aion
     
3. Make sure your Windows User has Administrator rights
   
   • Open the control panel and go to the Accounts and Users section
     
   • Find your username and make sure it is classed as an Administrator
     
4. Disable User Account Control (UAC)
   
   • This can be done in the same location and making sure you're an administrator
     
5. Make sure your computer is not infected with a virus or malware
   
   • This can be completed by running a virus scan of your computer
     
6. Make sure Windows is up to date
   
   • Clicked the start button, then Programs and then Windows Update
     
   • Install all important and recommended updates.
     
7. Connect via Ethernet and not Wifi if you have the choice
   
   • Check this tutorial for network problems: Solve network problems
     
8. Disable your Antivirus
   
   • Many antivirus problems are known to create problems while installing or running games
     
   • Known conflicts with antivirus and other apps
     
9. As a final check, disable any antivirus or anti-malware applications installed
   
   • Remember to enable these again if the problem continues
     

WARNING: This is only to be done if you have installed the game via Gameforge Live.

To solve some problems, it may be needed to completely uninstall and reinstall the Gameforge Live launcher. It also assists in finding the correct locations for the Game and Launcher.

1. Go to the following location: C:\Program Files (x86)\GameforgeLive\Games\EN_en\AION\
   
2. Take the Download folder and place this in a safe location as this contained your game
   
3. Run the following uninstallers in the following order.
   
   • C:\Program Files (x86)\GameforgeLive\Games\EN_en\AION\uninstall.exe
     
   • C:\Program Files (x86)\GameforgeLive\unins000.exe
     
4. Delete your GameforgeLive folder that can be located here "C:\Program Files (x86)\"
   
5. Delete the shortcut for the Gameforge Live launcher if this has not been automatically removed
   
6. Download the latest Gameforge Live Launcher.
   
7. Continue the installation until you receive the message "One of the components requires an update."
   
8. Click "Start Update" and then wait 30 seconds
   
9. After 30 seconds, manually stop the update and close the launcher
   
10. Remove the AION Free-To-Play Folder located at C:\Program Files (x86)\GameforgeLive\Games\EN_en\AION\
    
11. move the Download folder you saved earlier back into C:\Program Files (x86)\GameforgeLive\Games\EN_en\AION\
    
    • Warning: This must be exactly the same
      
    
    

Now you can launch the launcher again and you should be able to play the game like normal.

.net Framework 2.0 is required for Aion and is not automatically installed with Windows 8.

If during your installation of Aion you receive a message like "Framework 2.0 is missing ..." please download the following:

This will also include the 2.0 framework and should solve your problem.

Symptoms:

Some antivirus, Anti-Malware and other security software can create problems with certain aspects of Aion.

Known software that can create problems:
This is a small list of software we have found to create problems for certain users. Be aware that this is not a complete list and any feedback on other software that may create problems would be very helpful.

• IObit Malware Fighter - Creates problems with the uninstallation process and must be completely uninstalled
  
• IObit Advanced Systemcare - Creates problems with the uninstallation process and must be completely uninstalled
  
• Avast - Many users have reported problems while using this
  
• Comodo Internet Security (CIS) - Removes the Aion.bin file automatically
  
• Titanium internet Security - Please disable, if this does not solve the problem, may need removing
  
• Bitdefender - This can been known to create issues with connection
  
• Mumble - This has been reported for creating problems on launch, however can be started fine after Aion has loaded
  

Symptoms:

These errors are generally created when the launcher was not installed correctly or became corrupt.

Solutions:

If you have already installed the game and it was running fine before, please follow the below tutorial:

• Reinstalling the launcher without uninstalling the game
  

However, if this is your first installation or if you wish to complete a reinstall, please complete the following:

1. Make sure your Windows User has Administrator rights
   
2. Disable any antivirus or other malware software
   
3. Download the latest Gameforge Live Launcher
   
4. Open the downloaded file and select the 3rd option
   
5. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Gameforge\
   
6. Delete the NCLauncher folder if it is still present
   
7. Start the installation process again
   

The Windows command prompt allows you to run system commands. As using this operation will be needed often in other tutorials, please make sure you are aware of how to use this.

1. Click the Start Button
   
2. All Programs
   
3. Accessories
   
4. Right click command prompt
   
5. Run as administrator
   

Please remember that every you type in this must be followed by pressing the enter key to complete the command.

This is a small guide for people that wish to play Aion on Linux, please be aware that this is not perfect and I have not personally tested this as of yet.

1. First, download the Aion launcher and PlayOnLinux
   
2. Start PlayonLinux
   
3. go to the "Tools" menu
   
4. Manage versions of wine
   
5. install the 1.4.1 version of wine x86
   
6. Return to the main window of PlayOnLinux
   
7. Click "configure"
   
8. and create a "New 32-bit virtual drive" - even if you have a 64-bit os, this is important)
   
9. Choose wine version 1.4.1
   
10. Enter the name for your virtual drive
    
11. The virtual drive is now created. Select the virtual drive for AION and go to the "Install Packages" tab.
    
12. Start the installation of D3Dx9 and vcrun2005
    
13. Then go to the "Wine" tab and start the task manager, please browser and launch the AION installation. First accept the installation of .NET 2.0 by the installer.
    
14. This will take several hours and the final installation is about 22GB
    
15. Once installed, you will have a shortcut called "AION Free-To-Play.Ink". Only this shortcut will allow you to run the game, in contains the needed parameters for the launcher to run correctly.
    
16. In the configuration panel, select the virtual drive served for AION, click the Miscellaneous tab and "Open the virtual drive file and past the shortcut in. For example " / home / nomdevotreordi / .PlayOnLinux / wineprefix / AION / drive_c / Program Files / Gameforge / NCLauncher / "
    While still in the configuration panel, select the "General" tab and click "Create a shortcut for this Virtual hard drive" and then "browse" and select the shortcut "AION Free-To-Play.Ink"
    

With this complete, you will now be able to run Aion. If you already have the game installed elsewhere and wish to avoid a complete reinstallation, complete the following tutorial:
Installing Aion from a backup or copy



Known Bugs:

• Trimming of certain scriptures in windowed mode - restore the full screen to solve
  
• Glitches or lag on map generation if you have a smaller graphics card - Free feel to adjust the graphics options to improve this
  
• Crash-PlayOnLinux launch the game with the shortcut as error message: ". POL_Wine Error Wine seems to have planted ...". To address this concern, go to the "Wine" tab PlayOnLinux, start the task manager and run the shortcut from it.
  

this operation can be useful if you want to move your game folder, or if you're installing the game from a copy. This is rather easy to complete, however please only attempt this if you're an average to advanced computer user as mistakes here may create problems later on.

1. Click start and go to search
   
2. Type "regedit" and press enter
   
3. This will have opened the Registry Editor
   
4. Select the computer at the top in the left column then search for "AION-LIVE"
   
5. Once located you will see "BaseDir"
   
6. Right click and edit
   
7. Correct this path to your current Aion installation
   
8. click ok and close the registry editor
   

This should have now updated your installation folder and you should be able to continue like normal.
